Credit to the lovely anon on makorracaps’ blog. This is such a fantastic point.

uhhhhh…. wow okay this is dumb. sorry. i hate to be negative. but yeah this is kind of dumb.

reason: the fandom saw korra aggressively going after a taken guy. that’s not interesting, to me at least, from an emotional standpoint. that doesn’t inspire me, what am i supposed to feel bad about that?

bolin likes her and has a healthier, kinder approach. he doesn’t force himself into her heart. he backs off quickly and has to keep his feelings to himself. that’s interesting, that’s emotionally compelling. sorry if you don’t get it?

And the fact that we never really saw Korra get sad about Mako, did we? We had a few longing looks, but instead of being kind to the relationship he was in, she went full on out and tried to ruin it in the beginning, and that doesn’t make me want to write sad things? Korra is bullheaded, she just doesn’t take things with such an emotional heart when it comes to relationships like Bolin, so why would people make sad fanart when Korra herself isn’t off in a corner crying about it?

I just don’t understand why people assume she’d be really emotional over it, thus people expecting overly emotional fanwork to support it. Korra goes after things, she doesn’t sit around wishing for things to happen. Bolin is more of a dreamer and a wisher, at least to me, so I think that’s why the fandom clings to that unrequited love when we basically all knew that Makorra was endgame, and the point of writing/drawing sad things about their relationship would end up moot.

I need to know if Bolin stayed up late at night crying for Korra. Nightmares haunting him, with thoughts of weather she would return to all of them. I’m sure each night he secretly thanks Naga after his nightmares.

I think bolin would sob and let all his emotions flood him like a damn if korra was close to death. I think seeing the love of his life almost die before his eyes would cause any man to weep like a small child and cling to their beloveds form for dear life.
